COMMONWEALTH TO ME: Kat Kai Kol-Kes

What does The Commonwealth mean to you?
The Commonwealth is an institution that I think served its purpose at the founding but definitely needs to use that power to help channel opportunity to the lesser fortunate member states. It is an opportunity to create community across the globe.

How does the history of your country’s connection to the Commonwealth affect your feelings towards The Commonwealth now?

The constitution of Botswana still outlaws LGBT persons in the country and this is inherited from our history with England. I believe that should the Commonwealth get more hands on with advocacy for the rights of LGBT persons then we can actually get to a point of realising the full potential of these citizens in the Commonwealth. We need to advocate for full dignity for all.
